Description
Solar PV DC Isolator Switch: The Essential Safety Disconnect for Your Solar Array
The Solar PV DC Isolator (also known as a PV Disconnect Switch) is the most critical safety component in any solar energy system. Installed between your solar panels and the inverter, this heavy-duty switch allows you to manually and instantly “break” the flow of high-voltage direct current (DC) from the roof.
Unlike standard AC switches found in homes, a dedicated DC Isolator is engineered to handle the unique challenges of solar energy. Because DC electricity does not have a “zero-crossing” point, electrical arcs are extremely persistent and dangerous. This isolator features specialized arc-suppression technology to safely quench these arcs, protecting your property from fire and ensuring that technicians can perform maintenance with 100% peace of mind.
Why Every Solar System Needs a Dedicated DC Isolator
-
Emergency Rapid Shutdown: In the event of a fire or electrical fault, the DC isolator provides a clear, reachable point to de-energize the entire PV array, protecting both the building and emergency responders.
-
Safe Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Allows for the total isolation of the inverter or charge controller, enabling technicians to replace fuses, swap components, or upgrade wiring without the risk of high-voltage DC shock.
-
Arc Quenching Technology: Equipped with a high-speed “snap-action” mechanism and internal arc chutes that extinguish electrical arcs in less than 5 milliseconds, a feat standard AC breakers cannot achieve.
-
Weatherproof & UV-Stabilized: Since these are often mounted on rooftops or outdoor walls, they are housed in IP66-rated enclosures designed to survive intense tropical sun, heavy rain, and dust.

Product Highlights
1. High-Speed “Sudden Action” Mechanism
The internal contact system is spring-loaded. When you turn the handle, the contacts don’t move slowly; they “snap” open or closed instantly. This high-speed trigger is what prevents the formation of dangerous, sustained electrical arcs that cause internal melting and fires.
2. Dual-Chamber Arc Suppression
To handle voltages up to 1000V DC, our isolators use a multi-pole series configuration. By looping the current through multiple internal chambers, the voltage is divided, making it much easier and safer for the device to extinguish the electrical path.
3. Secure Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Feature
The rotary handle features a built-in padlock hole. When the switch is in the “OFF” position, you can insert a standard padlock to prevent anyone from accidentally turning the power back on while you are working on the system.
4. Non-Polarity Sensitive Design
For ease of installation, this PV disconnect is polarity-independent. This means you can wire your positive and negative lines in either direction without compromising the safety or effectiveness of the switch.
Professional Installation Applications
-
Rooftop Isolation: Mounted within 2 meters of the solar array to provide a rooftop disconnection point for firefighters and installers.
-
Inverter-Side Disconnect: Installed next to the inverter’s DC input to allow for safe component replacement or system resets.
-
Battery Bank Isolation: Used to safely disconnect high-voltage lithium or lead-acid battery banks from the rest of the DC bus during long-term storage or repair.
